Via Francigena

4800 EURO PER PERSON

All roads lead to Rome, but only one of them is La Via Francigena, a legendary Roman road traced by Julius Cesar in the year 58 BC called ‘The Way of the Sun’, connecting his northern provinces with the capital, Rome. The Via Francigena, together with the Camino de Santiago in Spain, became the backbone of the ancient road system of Western Europe throughout the middle ages.

On this epic 15-day trip you will follow back roads and trails from Siena, in the hills of Tuscany, to Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican City (Rome). Our path passes through gentle forests, glorious meadows, picturesque hilltop towns, vineyards, and wheat fields. We enjoy time spent with local historians in both Siena and Rome and also visit the 14th Century Benedictine Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore and the famous amphitheater of Sutri. A soak in the waters at Terme dei Papi in Viterbo and a splash in the cool waterfalls of Monte Gelato will revive your body after walking.

This being Italy of course, exquisite food and wines will also be a part of our journey and we have taken great care in choosing our lodgings for not only their comfort and history but their gastronomic delights. Come, join us on this journey of a lifetime.
