Porto to Santiago Along the Atlantic
There are Caminos that move through farmland and forests.
And then there is this one, where the Atlantic walks beside you.
Our Coastal Camino begins in Porto, a city of river light, tiled facades, and maritime history. From here we follow the Portuguese Coastal Way northward, tracing the edge of the ocean as it shapes dunes, beaches, cliffs, and quiet fishing villages.
For seventeen days, we walk through two countries and along one continuous shoreline. Golden sand beneath wooden boardwalks. Ancient Roman roads. Stone churches facing the sea. Coastal sanctuaries and lively harbor towns. The rhythm of waves becomes part of the pilgrimage.
We pass through Viana do Castelo, Caminha, and cross the Minho River into Spain, where Galicia greets us with rugged coastline and deep maritime tradition. In Baiona and Vigo, the sea remains our companion. In Redondela, we join the central Portuguese Camino and turn inland toward Santiago.
In Padrón, according to tradition, the boat carrying the body of Saint James first arrived on Iberian shores. From this legendary point of origin, we continue the final stretch to Santiago de Compostela, arriving together at the cathedral steps.
This Camino offers contrast and harmony at once. Ocean horizons and forest paths. Portugal and Spain. Fresh seafood and Galician village cooking. Long coastal light and quiet inland mornings.
Spanish Steps has been guiding pilgrims since 1995. This first Coastal edition in September 2026 is crafted with the same care and experience that has shaped our Camino journeys for three decades. Thoughtful daily distances. Bilingual expert guides. Luggage transport and full support. Carefully selected accommodations that allow you to experience both coastal culture and rural Galicia from within.
Join us for this inaugural journey in September 2026.
